On Friday, Speaker Martin Romualdez proudly initiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the ambitious P388-million Estancia-Manlot-Calagna-an-Sicogon submarine cable power interconnection project at the picturesque Ayala Estate in San Fernando, Sicogon Island, Iloilo.
This vital project aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s vision of fostering inclusive economic growth for all Filipinos. “No one should be left behind in development,” Romualdez emphasized. “Development is for everyone; it should extend beyond the cities to our islands and remote areas.” His words resonated with the President's call for government officials to prioritize equitable progress.
Romualdez underscored that this endeavor goes beyond simply laying a submarine power cable. “We are building a brighter and more prosperous future for all of you,” he stated, highlighting the transformative impact of the initiative.
The ceremony also saw the presence of key Iloilo officials, including Representatives Raul ‘Boboy’ Tupas and Jam Baronda, alongside Ayala executives led by Fernando Zobel de Ayala. The Speaker expressed his gratitude to local government officials and the Iloilo III Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ILECO-3) for their unwavering commitment to bringing this project to fruition.
Once completed, the project will connect the islands of Manlot, Calagna-an, and Sicogon to the main electricity grid, ensuring a reliable 24/7 power supply for nine villages and benefiting approximately 13,000 households.
How do you think this project will impact the lives of the residents in these islands?
